For owner-led businesses with 10 to 100 staff · Brisbane and Australia-wide

A senior operator, one or two days a week.

You've grown past the point where you can run everything yourself, but a full-time chief operating officer doesn't make sense yet. I work in your business 1 or 2 days a week and set up the rhythm, numbers, systems and accountability that let it run without you holding it together.

Your biggest time drain, and the fix I'd start with.

What I fix

Where the owner's week goes

We start with the one that costs you the most, then work down the list.

Everything still runs through you

I set up an operating rhythm: a weekly leadership meeting, a clear owner for each area and decisions made at the right level, so the business stops waiting on you.

Nobody agrees on the numbers

A short list of numbers that matter, one weekly report the team trusts, and targets each manager owns.

Systems held together with spreadsheets

I fix the process first, then set up the systems and automation to run it: CRM and pipeline, quoting, job tracking, invoicing and reporting.

Managers who aren't held to account

Clear roles, a simple scorecard for each manager and a regular check-in, so people know what good looks like and follow through.

Busy, but the margin keeps shrinking

We find where the money leaks: pricing, unbilled work, jobs that run over, slow invoicing. Then we fix it and watch cash every week.

Growth that's outrunning the team

Hiring, handovers and capacity planned before they turn into a crisis.

We agree the priorities on the discovery day, before you commit to anything.

Example setup

What two days a week could look like for a 40-person service business

EXAMPLE ONLY, NOT A CLIENT
  1. Week 1: a discovery day inside the business, then a written plan with the three things costing you the most, in order.
  2. Every week: a leadership meeting with you and your managers, run to a set agenda, with actions tracked to done.
  3. Weeks 2 to 4: one weekly report with the handful of numbers that matter, built from the systems you already have.
  4. Month 2: the biggest leak fixed first, for example the path from quote to invoice, with automation where it saves real time.
  5. Month 3: each manager owns a scorecard. You review the numbers instead of chasing people.
  6. Every quarter: we review what's changed and decide together whether to keep going, scale back or hand over.

This shows what an engagement can look like. Yours is shaped around your business on the discovery day.

Questions

Straight answers

What is a fractional COO?

A senior operations leader who works in your business part-time, usually 1 or 2 days a week. You get the experience of a chief operating officer without the cost of a full-time executive.

What's your background?

Over 20 years running operations as a general manager, executive and CEO, in businesses from small teams to a few hundred people. I've turned around businesses and divisions that were losing money, built the CRM, quoting, reporting and invoicing systems they ran on, and chaired safety and risk committees. I hold an MBA from QUT and I'm a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

How is this different from your automation work?

Automation fixes a task. As a fractional COO I work on how the whole business runs: the people, the numbers and the systems. Automation is often part of it, but it's not the starting point.

Is my business the right size?

It usually fits owner-led businesses with 10 to 100 staff that are growing fast or feel stuck, where the owner still holds most of the operations. If you're smaller, my automation work is likely a better fit, and I'll tell you so on the call.

Will you replace my managers?

No. I work through your managers and help them lead their areas. The goal is a team that runs the business well without me.

What does it cost?

It depends on how much time your business needs, so I quote each engagement after the discovery day and agree it in writing before we start. The minimum is 3 months. The first call is free and the discovery day is a fixed fee.

Step out of the day to day. Keep the business growing.
